Orange County Airport Transportation Options
68Arriving at the Orange County Airport does not mean that you have arrived at your travel destination, unless of course you have business at the airport. More than likely however, you are trying to get somewhere in Orange County. So the problem becomes how you get from the John Wayne Airport to where you’re trying to go. Lucky for you there are several options.
Public Transportation
Public transportation is a feasible option from Orange County Airport. Public transportation can be the least expensive way to leave the airport but because of all of the stops it can also be the slowest route to take. There are four bus options: Disneyland Resort Express, The I Shuttle, Greyhound, OCTA Access Services for the disabled, and Orange County Transportation Authority. There are also three train options from the airport: AMTRAK, METRO, METROLINK. When planning to take public transportation be sure that you have checked the schedule ahead of time to insure that the options are available for the month, day, and hour you will be arriving.
Taxi and Limo Services
Taxi and van service is always available at the airport in the Ground Transportation Center. Taxi cabs can seat up to 5 people while Taxi vans can carry up to 7 people. Before climbing into the cab you might want to ask the driver what the estimated fare will be based on your destination and the traffic during that time of day. If you do your research before arriving at John Wayne you might just discover that hiring a limo is less costly than taking at taxi! The airport is served by some 500 different limo companies. If you wish to travel by limo you will need to make arrangements prior to your arrival and verify that the provider has a license to pick up at Orange County Airport.
Shuttles
There are over 17 different shuttle companies that provide shuttle service to and from the Orange County John Wayne Airport. These shuttles are usually small passenger vans that go from the airport to different areas and hotels in the area. Shuttles are located on the arrival level of the Ground Transportation Center. Shuttles carry a number of passengers to a variety of destinations. This can mean a number of stops for you along the way slowing down trip. Some shuttles make scheduled departures while others leave once the shuttle is full. This is a good reason to research the different shuttle service options before your arrival. One of the great benefits to taking a shuttle however, is the low cost when compared to a taxi.
Car Rental
There are seven car rental agencies located at the Terminal and over 8 car rental agency options at off-site locations. You will want to make your rental arrangements before arriving at the airport. Be sure to call both onsite and off-site options to see what the pricing differences are. Renting a vehicle while your in Orange County is a great way to have your freedom and be able to go where you want when you want. However, Orange County is one of the largest counties in California and the driving there can be overwhelming. If you do rent a car be sure to have a map or GPS ready so that you don’t waste time by getting lost.
